Friendly Neighbors

When I moved into my new neighborhood I was not expecting such a warm welcome! I thought that since it was the south my neighbors might be friendlier than the ones I had in Jersey but man, I was not prepared for the people here! The first day I moved in my next door neighbor came over and brought me 36 cupcakes. Thirty six! I’m a single woman! The day after that a group of ladies from down the street came by with this huge gift basket that had all kinds of stuff in it: coupons to restaurants nearby, a list of all kinds of helpful utility company information like www.electriccompaniesindallas.com and even a bunch of trash bags and toilet paper because they said they knew I was still unpacking! I guess if these people are any indication of how things are going to go for me here in Texas I’m pretty happy. I was tired of all the grumpy, rude people in New Jersey and I was anxious to get down here and live in the south again (I went to LSU for college.) Now that I’m here I can’t wait to learn more about Dallas since I’d never even been here before the week I came down to look for houses…and maybe even meet some cute single guys! I’ve been trying to save up money to go on a weekend trip to the coast soon with some of my new work friends and it’s not hard – Texas is SO much cheaper all around than Jersey was and between the money I’m saving on my utilities and on the cost of food I think I’ll hit my goal in just a few weeks. I love this place already and now I’m just wondering why it took me so long to move down here! It’s been a whirlwind so far but I’m looking forward to what the next few months are sure to bring for me.
